If you're like 15 years old, then you're not going to understand what I'm talking about, But way back when your mommy and daddy where kids, the World Wrestling Federation was fu*king cool. As a matter of fact, I'd dare say a lot of us got our first glimpse of and experience with grappling by watching professional wrestling. I know I cherish the memories of throwing figure-four-leg-locks on dudes at St. Marianne's Catholic School in beautiful Pico Rivera, CA. Those were the good ol' days.
Many of you may pshaw pro wrestling as fake and, in some way, a degradation of "real" collegiate/folk/Greco Roman wrestling or catch wrestling from back in the day. And, it's true, it's entertainment and the matches are indeed "works." We think it's freakin' fun and it's still wrestling (sort of).
Hossein Kosrow Vaziri, or The Iron Sheik, as we know him, is one the most iconic heels in the history of pro-wrestling. But, not everyone knows he was once a world class amateur wrestler and he's led a fascinating and pretty tragic life. Some fans (and apparently, family friends) of the Sheik are finishing up a documentary on his life and looking for funds to finish. If you're down, pitch in here. Check out the teaser video below.
Side note: Sure, this is a BJJ-centric website. That's what we do. That's what we live for. But, we like to have fun around here and there's nothing wrong with a well-time pile driver (or, Camel Clutch) from time to time. So, there.
